As the world turns, it is amazing to realise how swiftly the years fly by! It is now already the end of April 2022 and we are still reeling from the vicious attack of the invisible enemy - the coronavirus omicron et al. Two years on and we will continue the Silver Horizon story …
To recap, 2022 is the tenth year since the co-op started! Our dearly beloved Helen Lim was instrumental in forming the co-op with the mission to provide a suitable platform for like-minded seniors to plan and travel together. At the same time we meet new friends and enjoy our twilight years.
In 2019, it was a good year for us. We organised ten tours far and near, including a charity-cum members tour to the Sky Mirror, Sekinchan, Malaysia. In addition, we conducted three makan events, Coffee with the Chairman in February (26 participated), Tea session and AGM in May (49 participated) and the year end dinner in December (94 participated).
In 2020, the lockdown descended upon us from April to October. We were hit. Only managed to travel to Ipoh in January (17 members) and in February to Tasmania & Melbourne (18 members). The tour to South Korea planned for April was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We could only organise a local excursion to the Edible Garden in October (10 participated) and in November a local trip to Pulau Ubin (29 participated). We tried to interest the members to join the hotel staycations, but no takers. Moreover the makan sessions were forbidden.
In 2021, the situation became more dismal, nothing could happen until year end. In December we managed to organise a lunch at Grand Hyatt (50 participated) and 17 members joined the local Southern Islands tour.
After two years of disruption, we are hopeful to restart our travelling with a tour to Thailand, Chiangmai and Chiangdao in May 2022. Hope springs eternal - we hope to continue with more tours to other places like Vietnam, Dalat, Malaysia, Bentong & KL, South Korea, Seoul, China, Kunming, Dali, Taiwan and maybe New Zealand, North Island. The saga will continue and we will go on to explore places together.
