The HK experience (July 2015)

What does one do when in Hong Kong? Enjoy the shops and food places of course! But our group of seven did more – we attended an International Seminar on Active Ageing organized by the HK Institute of Active Ageing. We made contacts at the Seminar, and learned about ageing challenges in many countries, especially about Smart Ageing introduced by a Professor from Japan.

We had inside help – Albert Yeung is a truly home grown HK person, who provided all the support seamlessly. Both Albert and Teo Chin Seng greeted us at the airport and showed us the way to take the express train to Kowloon. We could even buy subsidized train cards for seniors!

One of our memorable dining outlet...a Michelin-category Wanton Noodle. The weather was good and warm as expected, but the verdict was that it was less hot and humid than in Singapore.

Our HK trip had another memorable dinner experience. Shook Ken and Liat Cheng invited us to a sumptuous dinner at the Chao Yang Restaurant (Tsim Sha Tsui) over-looking the HK Bay. They are SH members, and who were there in HK visiting their son and family. In fact they just arrived on the day itself and hosted a dinner for us that evening.

The seven of us became acquainted in Silver Horizon. Although we come from different backgrounds and profession, we shared much laughter, kinship, even "argument" on hot topics like politics and religion, but we enjoyed each other's company.

We even shared excitement when one of us had to band-aid up the shoes in distress, one lost her walking stick, one twisted her knee while wrestling with the ironing board in the hotel room, and one led the ladies to the wrong shopping complex!

This unique friendship will continue, we are certain. " We believe travelling under Silver Horizon is an experience beyond the sight-seeing, food and shopping ... it is the bonding, watching out for each other, and building fellowship" says Helen Lim. Cheers for many more years of bon voyage together! (The unique 7: Albert, Chin Seng, Florence, Helen, Marie, Rosie & Shirley)
